Interring a Pet Casket should be considered a skill. If done properly, a family could avoid future problems such as a broken seal, a broken casket, and the settling of the ground.
First, Place the pet casket box on the grave site (for size). Remove the sod in an area approximately two inches larger than the box. Carefully, place the sod on a sheet of plastic in order that it is removed. Then remove the dirt to whatever depth you use (placeing dirt on another sheet of plastic).
Now having a rectangular hole, perhaps three feet deep or so. Before interring the pet casket, loosen at least another one inch of soil on the bottom, working out clumps. Lowerthe casket gently but firmly onto the loosened soil. Proceed by back filling a couple of inches at a time, stopping to tamp the soil firmly. Stop at about inches below the seal of the casket. Add about two inches of water and allow it to drain. Continue to backfill and tamp. Fill to the point that when you place the sod it will be on inch higher than the surrounding ground. Settling should take care of the extra inch.
